5 Tips to Keep Your Pearly Whites Shining

A healthy set of white teeth can brighten up your smile, but how do you make sure your pearly whites remain shining? Here are a few tips:

Brush with Care

Of course, dental care starts with you brushing your teeth at least twice a day. However, it’s also important that you follow the right technique.

Spend a full 2-minutes on brushing your teeth using a good toothbrush with soft bristles. This will let you get the area between the teeth without causing any pain or damage. Make sure you don’t brush too hard, though. Contrary to what people may think, brushing vigorously can actually harm the enamel and cause your gums to bleed. Take it easy and brush in an up-and-down motion for maximum effect.

Follow a Tooth-Friendly Diet

You’d be surprised to know the difference following a certain diet can have on the appearance of your teeth.

Fluoride is an essential mineral for your teeth and is found in toothpastes too. This can be obtained through water and additional fluoride supplement if needed. Your teeth also need ample servings of calcium and vitamin D daily to keep them healthy, and this can be provided through consuming fresh orange juice, green vegetables and dairy products.

Try to include strawberries in your diet as the folic acid in them naturally exfoliates teeth and cleanses them of stains. Moreover, avoid eating a lot of sugary and acidic food that would harm your teeth.

Floss in Intervals

People tend to underestimate this technique but flossing is very important for your teeth! You may brush twice or thrice a day, but even the soft bristles don’t go all the way between your teeth.

Floss between meals and before going to bed to prevent getting gum disease. You may use a traditional dental floss or water flosses, but be sure to do it. It’s best to first ask your dentist about the right flossing technique for you before you get started.

Visit Your Dentist Frequently

“An apple a day will keep the dentist away” is a way to get kids to eat healthy, but don’t let the saying trick you into thinking that you don’t need to visit one regularly.

Even if you take excellent care of your teeth, you still need to go for regular check-ups to make sure your dental health is in optimal condition. Dental health is connected to your overall health; a dentist can help you maintain your health after a proper examination while making sure your pearly whites keep shining.

Follow Recommendations

Having regular dental check-ups is only helpful if you follow your dentist’s recommendations. A certain product might not be working out for you or you may be having allergies from a food type. Let your dentist advise you on these matters and follow through with it!
